FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Donation to KD7ARET
Kentucky District 7 Amateur Radio Emergency Team, Inc. Receives Another
Large Donation!
February 12, 2007 -- Even after the tragic death of
philanthropist and entrepreneur John E. Meyer, his family has found it important
to continue the support that Mr. Meyer saw as a necessity for emergency
communications in Northern Kentucky. Daughters Patty Meyer Dorn and Marcia Meyer
O'Rouke are following in their father's footsteps by continuing to donate to
Kentucky District 7 Amateur Radio Emergency Team (KD7ARET). The donation will be
used to help support their efforts in providing emergency communications to
served agencies in times of manmade, natural or chemical disasters. The agencies
most served by our organization are police, fire, National Weather Service and
Emergency Management.
KD7ARET is comprised of over 85 men and women, Amateur Radio Operators (hams),
living in the nine county areas in District 7 of Northern Kentucky; which
include Boone, Campbell, Carroll, Gallatin, Grant, Kenton, Owen, Pendleton and
Scott. They dedicate their time, knowledge, expertise and equipment. The Federal
Communications Commission (FCC) does not allow them to charge these served
agencies for their services.
Some of the monies will go for training. We will be participating in the
American Radio Relay League National Field Day exercise on June 23rd and 24th at
the Mills Road Park in Independence, Kentucky. This is open to the public and is
an exercise in sharpening our communications skills.
We will be setting aside part of the money towards getting a WinLink 2000
digital backup e-mail communications system. This system will be a stand-alone
system and will not be dependent upon any local ISP or provider. Each system is
close to seven thousand dollars and we have a need for ten systems, one for each
county and one for the district office.
In the past year KD7ARET has bought reflective vests to be used by its members
during an incident, bought radios, antennas, coax, for County Emergency
Operation Centers and kept its website current with training material and
information along with its month to month operations.
